QUESTION:
Please help me figure out what to do for my Saint Bernard puppy!?
I have a 7 month old Saint Bernard puppy who a week ago hurt his front leg while playing at the local dog park. He had x-rays taken and I was SHOCKED when the vet brought them in to show me and we could see right through the top part of his leg bone. The vet was also very concerned but basically told me it would naturally correct itself over time as long as I kept him quiet and didn't let him engage in ANY typical puppy play, including running, jumping and play wrestling. He told me that once my dog is an adult his bones will calcify and there won't be any issues, but how the heck am I supposed to stop him completely from being a normal healthy and happy puppy if he can't even play the way puppies are supposed to?
There has to be a way to get more calcium in to his diet without it harming him and I am finding VERY conflicting information on all of this. I have been told by professional pet stores that human calcium supplements are just fine, and I have been told by others that it can be very harmful and cause Kidney Stones as well as Urinary Tract Infections. I was given the advice to use eggshells and make a powder to add to his food, but if I don't make use of all of the eggs that will be a big waste of money so I wanted to include the whole egg in to his diet but am also finding conflicting information on whether they are ok. I have heard that raw eggs are great for a dogs coat, but have heard other reports of the Avidin in egg whites depleting a dog of Biotin (B vitamin). But I also read that giving them cooked eggs isn't good because they can stick to a dogs intestine. I am becoming VERY frustrated with so many differing sources of information and am really hoping someone with REAL EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE can answer these questions so I don't feel like I'm not getting anywhere and so my poor baby can get what he needs to get better and STAY better as he grows!
History so far- brought him home at 7 weeks, put him directly on a holistic all stages dog food called Whole Life Natural from TLC. This food was very highly recommended and surpassed every other brand of food I looked in to in close to nearly every category which is why I chose it. It has 26% crude protein and 1.8% calcium but I was told the protein was more important in puppies and I have no idea what the recommended amount of calcium on a Saint should be.
I have been wondering if a raw diet might be something I should look in to and also wondered if anyone had any insight on that route. I truly do believe that every dog is different and requires different things based on breed, sex, size, weight, and dogs such as Saint Bernards who came from the mountains should eat foods similar to what they would get in the wild. Any thoughts and input on this would be greatly appreciated. I honestly feel like I'm backed up against a wall and even though I did so much research before I brought him home, I'm still not getting the necessary information for him specifically.
Sincerely,
~Sarah~

ANSWER:
Have you received a second opinion from a different vet? That would be my first bit of advise, go to an entirely different veterinary office and see what they say without giving them background info. Then you can talk to them about whether or not they agree/disagree with your first vets diagnosis.
I don't think adding calcium to his diet will help the process become faster. It is probably just a genetic fault from breeding. My dog had spinal surgery when he was younger and we had to keep him very calm for almost 4 months. He wasn't allowed to jump off or on the couch or bed, go down stairs, or run around at all. It was a HUGE pain but it is do-able. We left his collar and leash on all the time and kept him at our side literally 24/7. My mom slept with his leash around her arm so he couldn't jump off the bed at night (.... even though I recommend crate training so you won't have to go through this... my mom is stubborn lol). Carry him up and down stairs if you have to go outside etc.
I've had similar experience fostering dogs that were going through heartworm treatment. They have to be kept very calm and quiet as well, and although it's a relatively short period of time compared to what your puppy has to wait for, we spent a lot of time in the crate and took very long, slow, calm walks in quiet places. I'd say that going to the dog part is an absolute no until his bones are better.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
Kidney pain! with no idea what is wrong!?
I've had kidney pain, fever, nausea and body shakes for about a week now and have already been to the E.R when the pain first started. I have a bad kidney already it only works 32% and it's damaged from when I was a kid. The emergency room told me the kidney was swollen and I might have passed a stone but that was it.
I have history of kidney stones and infections. The kidney doctor I went to yesterday told me my urine was fine and therefore no infection then I should be fine. Sent me home no pain pills just an order for a reflux test (VCUG) which I already had like 5 times & it always says I had reflux. I told him I don't want the test because I already know I have reflux and he told me to be an adult and have it done.. So I will go but i'm dying in pain all day long and it keeps me awake at night.
What is causing my pain!? I am 100% positive it is my right kidney because of my past pains related to the kidney itself. The urinalysis said "trace" for blood, protein & so on.. but not enough to say anything. Why the hell am I hurting! I'm so frustrated my kidney dr blew my off.
Could the fact that it is damaged and doesn't work well have to do with anything? Oh and my blood work levels for my kidneys are always really low.. whatever that means.

ANSWER:
A lot of question to answer.
Could do it, but that would deny you the chance to do some research.
Also, would take me too long. Please do some research, and answer the questions yourself. You will be able to do it, and feel better in yourself for doing so, rather than copying answers, that could be wrong anyway.
